This moving poem was sent to me by a friend who\u2019s moved to Philadelpia. I had never heard of John O\u2019Donohue so I looked him up in Wikipedia. Suggest you do too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BEANNACHT<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the day when<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weight deadens<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On your shoulders<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you stumble,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May the clay dance<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To balance you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when your eyes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freeze behind<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gray window<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the ghost of loss<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gets into you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May a flock of colors,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indigo, red, green<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And azure blue,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come to awaken in you<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A meadow of delight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the canvas frays<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the curragh of thought<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a stain of ocean<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blackens beneath you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May there come across the waters<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A path of yellow moonlight<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To bring you safely home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May the clarity of light be yours,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May the fluency of the ocean be yours,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May the protection of the ancestors be yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so may a slow<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wind work these words<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of love around you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An invisible cloak<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mind your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
